The Business Case for Deploying Social Business Software – using Open Source (2011)

  • Acquia co-founder Jay Batson will discuss the business case for deploying social business software and provide an overview open source alternatives for social business software. The session will also include case examples of customers using social business software to build communities both internally facing and external communities.

Description: Many organizations are discovering the value of social web technologies by deploying social business software to create competitive advantage. However, these deployments are often problematic because of the (historic) need to implement a social business solution using proprietary software, anchoring organizations in old, now-defunct ways of doing business.

Open source social business software frees organizations to better meet the needs of their community. Feature-complete, pre-packaged open source alternatives to proprietary social business software offers freedom:

    • To create communities in the innovative ways needed by diverse business communities
    • From the functional boundaries of proprietary software and it’s APIs, replacing it will fully-flexible open source
    • From usurious software licensing fees; using open source eliminates software license fees

The synergy between developers, business people, and teachers makes POSSCON pretty unique, I haven't really seen this anywhere else.

It was very nicely run and I think you did a bang-up job. You should all be proud of what you did.

This is like nothing you've ever seen before.  You can look at the pictures, you can watch the videos... but just like a concert, you have to be there.
