John M. Weathersby, Jr.

  • John M. Weathersby, Jr. is the founder and executive director of the Open Source Software Institute, a U.S.-based non-profit organization whose mission is to promote adoption of open source software solutions within US Federal, state and local government agencies.  As the director of OSSI, Weathersby has served as an advisor to a number of Federal and state government agencies including Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and other security and civilian entities.  He is a founding member of the Open Technology Research Consortium, a strategic alliance of leading academic research institutions and open technology development organizations which focus on open source software solution implementation within government and public sector enterprise systems. Weathersby serves as a strategic advisor and program liaison for Communications and Outreach for the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Open Security Technology (HOST) program.
